We have exciting news! Following years of planning, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes on a multimillion pound investment in a brand-new data centre. Now, as we launch our new state-of-the-art, energy-efficient data centre located at Worcester Six Business Park, we want to tell you all about it and why this move is so important for Fasthosts and our customers.
Why are we launching a new data centre?
Everything we do at Fasthosts is about our customers. We know that businesses across the UK rely on our tech and we want to make sure they’re using nothing but the best. That’s why we’ve invested in a data centre that can support business growth, offers excellent fibre optic connectivity and operates at the highest security levels, all while being sustainable too. We’re taking a big step into the future and we’re bringing our customers along with us.
Our new data centre has loads to offer like:
- Increased capacity with up to 38,501 sq ft (it's so big you can see it when you drive down the M5!)
- Designed and constructed to Tier IV standard to ensure 99.995% availability
- Geo-redundant 100Gb/s fibre optic connectivity to the whole of the UK and overseas (significantly faster than standard connections)
- ISO 27001 certification for information security management
- Green credentials – 100% renewable energy, solar panels, electric car charging points, green roofs and best-in-class power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25 or less
What does it mean?
Part of setting up our new Worcester data centre involves migrating our existing Gloucester data centres to the new location. It's been years in the making and a lot of expertise, testing and attention to detail has gone into the migration planning process. For our customers, it’ll all be worth the wait, with major benefits in the long run including better connectivity, improved uptime and the knowledge that they can enjoy top-tier products while feeling good that their hosting is more sustainable too.
Almost all account and product migrations will happen without any preparation required and within existing maintenance periods. For any customers who may see some minor impact, we’re getting in touch well in advance of the scheduled migration with everything they need to know.
