If you’re looking for a dedicated server for your project or business, it can be difficult to know where to start. There are hundreds of hosts, all fighting to get your attention and business. Plus, the stakeholders within your business will have their own opinions and needs from a hosting provider. So what should you be looking out for?

In this blog, we’ll take a look at our prices, compared to some of our closest competitors, and take a bit of the leg work out of your research. We’ll also compare specs and stats between the most similar Dedicated Servers from each company.

This research was done on 3rd September 2024 and the data below was correct as of that date.

Price

When choosing your hosting provider, price is of course going to be a big deciding factor. A lot of companies, as you’ll see in the table below, will offer an introductory price for the first month, which will then rise after this period is over. Make sure you’re aware of what that new price will be so you’re not surprised at the end of the month.

For example, we have plenty of awesome offers on our Dedicated Servers – like half price for the first month or first month free.

Something that won’t change is that we won’t charge you any setup fees – you’ll always know what’s coming on your bill so you can budget accurately. This is another selling point for your stakeholders.

So you can get a rough idea of what to expect, we’ve included a table below with some of our Intel Dedicated Servers. But of course, if you want a full breakdown, head over to our website.

Bandwidth, storage and CPU

If you’re expecting lots of traffic to your site or lots of users, choose a provider that’ll give you faster, larger bandwidth or even unmetered bandwidth. This will mean you don’t get charged more than you’re expecting or have extra, surprise fees. If your bandwidth speed is too slow,  your website won’t be able to cope with the traffic – faster bandwidth = faster load speeds.

Storage goes hand in hand with this. If you’re a business that holds lots of data, for yourselves or for customers, you’re going to need more storage space to keep things running smoothly. It’s the same with CPU. The more data and traffic means more power needed, so a higher CPU.

It’s not just the specs that count

The table below shows which hosting providers offer 24/7, human support and also their level of uptime for the same dedicated servers in the table above.

* Note: for Krystal their uptime for their dedicated servers wasn’t clearly displayed, so we’ve used the uptime stated for their web hosting plans.

Uptime

If you’re running a business or project that requires constant availability and relies on customers or visitors being able to access 24/7, uptime is a big consideration. Hosting providers should give you an uptime percentage, so you can compare and make sure you’re getting the most reliable service.

The data centre your data is hosted in also factors into this. Check the provider’s data centre certifications, locations and security measures to make sure they’re prioritising you and your server.

Did you know: Our Worcester data centre is Tier IV certified, which is the highest certification a data centre can get! This means we’ve got the best in security, uptime, and fault tolerance, so you can rely on us to keep everything running smoothly.

Support

Having the right support for your server is worth its weight in gold. You need a hosting provider that’ll be there 24/7 for any problems you may encounter and any questions you might have. Having this support increases efficiency and capability, as you’ll be able to ask the right people the right questions, especially when those people are experts in their field.

You also can’t underestimate the power of chatting to a human, not a robot. If you open a chat and are only met with automated responses when you’re already stressed, that’s not exactly going to help your mood. Equally, long hold times and the dreaded hold music can escalate a situation very quickly.

Here at Fasthosts, our team is available 24/7. So no matter when you’re working, there’s always someone on the end of the phone to help. We know that work doesn’t always stop at 5pm.

A provider you can count on

For a Dedicated Server with impressive hardware, full root access, top security and HDD, SSD or NVMe storage, look no further than our range of products. Our Intel servers come with up to 192GB RAM and up to 24 core processors. Or if AMD is more for you, you can get up to 256GB RAM and up to 8TB HDD storage. Plus, no matter what server you choose, you’ll always benefit from our expert support, 24/7.
