If you didn’t already know, we’re celebrating our 25th year – happy birthday to us! Now a lot has happened since our creation in 1998, too much to cover every single moment in one blog post. So, we’ve chosen some of our best bits for you to take a look at. Join us in celebrating our birthday with a Fasthosts Wrapped of the past 25 years.
1998
Would you believe us if we said that Fasthosts started out as an A-Level project? Because it did! Our founder, Andrew Michael, was struggling to find a cost-effective, reliable hosting service to support his project, so he created his own. And that was the beginning of an incredible journey that has led us here, 25 years later!
2000
Gladiator, X-Men, Gilmore Girls and Fasthosts brand-new HQ – the year 2000 gave us some classics. Our first corporate HQ opened in Gloucester Quays, which is where it still stands today! The perfect space for our team to grow and work.
2001
Just 1 year after our Gloucester headquarters opened, we completed our first data centre in the same location. There’s no slowing us down! This guaranteed high-performing, reliable services right here in the UK for every one of our customers.
2005
This year we launched our incredible Dedicated Servers range, meaning we could now offer our customers the best in performance and reliability on their own hardware. This paved the way for a whole host (get it?) of products that we would later launch.
2006
We made a new friend! In 2006 we were acquired by United Internet, one of the world’s largest hosting groups. In doing this, we strengthened our market-leading position, helping us grow into the provider we are today!
2011, 2012 and 2014
The years of achievements! Across these 3 years, we won Microsoft Hosting Partner of the year, became a Microsoft Small Business Specialist, registered our 10 millionth domain and accomplished a global first – the launch of our innovative Cloud Server platform. Some crazy numbers over some incredible years.
2015
2015 saw the introduction of automated WordPress installations for our range of shared hosting services. This opened up more opportunities for our customers and made growing their businesses and projects easier than ever!
2018
Make way for Bare Metal! With our launch of Bare Metal Servers, we were able to offer our customers the same power as Dedicated Servers, but with much more flexibility. This included flexible billing, the latest SSD tech and full root access.
In the same year, we also turned 20! Another happy birthday to us!
2021
We launched our Partner Network, developed to help new and existing customers find trusted web pro businesses to support them in creating and maintaining an online presence. And now we’ve got over 400 Partners and nearly 200 active profiles on the Network! Amazing stuff!
2022
Last year we had one of our most exciting years yet, when we opened our brand new, state-of-the-art data centre in Worcester. Not only does it run on 100% renewable energy, it’s also Tier IV-certified. This means it really is the best of the best in terms of security and performance.
Not only that, we also launched our managed cloud service, Fasthosts ProActive. This gave us the chance to welcome some new faces to the ever-growing team and help new customers.
2023 and beyond!
And now here we are, in 2023, celebrating 25 years of Fasthosts and 25 years of giving our customers the best in tech, performance and customer service. We’re looking forward to sharing many more with you and seeing where the next 25 years and beyond takes us.
